Brent W. Yager, life long resident of Marion County, son of Harry and Vella Yager, and accomplished trial attorney, announces his candidacy for Marion County Prosecutor, set for election on November 4, 2008. Mr. Yager is running as an independent. Yager cites the numerous requests by Marion County Law Enforcement officers for a change, pointing to the increasing frustration with the present Marion County Prosecutor, Jim Slagle, and his refusal to prosecute many felony arrests. Additionally, the candidate expresses his deep concerns for the safety of Marion County residents resulting from the County’s current chief litigators’ lack of assertive prosecution.
Mr. Yager is a 1975 graduate of Marion Harding High School, 1979 graduate of Muskingum College, and a 1982 graduate of Case Western Law School. He has been practicing law in central Ohio for over 24 years. Most recently, he is employed as an assistance prosecutor in Morrow County handling all adult felony cases. Additionally, he magistrates in four courts in Morrow County and is an Assistant Law Director for the City of Marion.
Mr. Yager resolves that his campaign will be positive in nature, and he presents the following goals:
- Create outreach programs with communities for successful detection/apprehension of felons
- Create an environment of teamwork with law enforcement for assertive criminal prosecutions to re-establish safety in our neighborhoods and confidence in our criminal system
- Re-establish lines of communications and cooperation between law enforcement for successful prosecution of all felon offenses in Marion County not just a select few
- Concentrate on real solutions and results rather than statistics
- Communication with public so they can voice their concerns by implementing open-door policy
- Fresh ideas and positive change
- Restore professionalism and integrity within the legal arena
- Invigorate citizen involvement and bridge our differences
Mr. Yager avers the present system of prosecuting felonies in Marion County is broken due to the lack of a teamwork relationship between hardworking Marion County Law Enforcement agencies and the current prosecutor’s office. This relationship has deteriorated to a point in which it cannot be repaired or restored. In Marion County “It is time for a change and the time is now.”
